Two Felonies + Firearms Pics = 46 Months in Federal Prison

Coeur d’Alene (670 KBOI News) – Here’s a little free advice to felons…if you’re not supposed to be in possession of a firearms, don’t post a picture on social media of you posing with one.

That’s exactly how Donovan Gomez of Spokane got himself arrested last spring at the Coeur d’ Alene Tribal Casino Hotel.

Assistant US Attorney Traci Whelan says it happened on April 3rd, only about six months after the mass shooting in Las Vegas, so they weren’t taking it lightly.

“He and his girlfriend checked into the Presidential Suite at the Coeur d’Alene Casino, and rented it.” said Whelan.  “(He) posted a picture of himself holding an AR-15, and what looked to be a handgun.”

He also had about 100 rounds of ammo for the AR-15, Whelan said.

Someone saw the pictures and alerted the Casino.  They in turn called Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police, who called the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.  Gomez was arrested, and indicted on April 17th.

Gomez had two prior convictions, including car theft and robbery…he was prohibited from possessing firearms.

He was sentenced last week to 46 months in federal prison, followed by three years’ probation.
