Fire crews respond to mercury spill

Fire crews responded to a mercury spill in Boise Monday morning, and officials would like to speak with anyone who may have been exposed to the chemical.

The spill occurred about 10:30 a.m. at the First Nation Pawn on N. Orchard St..

The Idaho Press reports, a woman had a baby jar full of mercury and was on her way to dispose of the chemical. It fell out of her car, though, and splashed across the ground near the pawn shop.

Mercury poisoning can cause a sore throat, headache, diarrhea, corrosive bronchitis and damage to the central nervous system.

Boise Fire Department officials want to speak with anyone who was at that business at the time of the incident to determine if they’ve been exposed to mercury.
