One person killed in officer involved shooting in Caldwell

Police fatally shot a man Sunday after a standoff at a Caldwell residence.

Canyon County Sheriff’s deputies originally responded about 8:22 a.m. to the 15000 block of Yoder Avenue on report of a domestic disturbance, according to a news release from Joe Decker, spokesman for Canyon County.

During the course of the call, a man, who was not identified, barricaded himself in a residence.

Over the next few hours, police tried to negotiate with him. The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was deployed as well. Just before 1:30 p.m., the man left the back of the residence with a handgun.

The man then pointed the gun at officers, and two deputies fired their guns at him. He was declared dead on the scene.

The Idaho Press reports, no officers were hurt.

As is standard protocol, both deputies who fired their weapons will be placed on leave, according to the release.
