Today in country music history:

2004 - In Beverly Hills, CA, a tribute concert to honor Ray Charles raised $15 million for Morehouse College Center for the Arts in Atlanta. Bill Cosby hosted the event, and the performers included Stevie Wonder, Travis Tritt, Michael McDonald, James Ingram and Patti Austin. Charles had died of acute liver disease on June 10, 2004.

2004 – Randy Travis received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

2004 - Rascal Flatts' album, Feels Like Today, was released.

1991 - Garth Brooks' album Ropin' the Wind became the first country music album to debut at number one on the pop album chart.

1985 - Ronnie Milsap went to number one with "Lost in the Fifties Tonight (In the Still of the Night)."

1984 - George Strait's album, Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind, was released.

1974 - Waylon Jennings took up the number one spot with "I'm a Ramblin' Man."

1968 - Jeannie C. Riley went to number one with "Harper Valley P.T.A."
