Lawsuit filed against Idaho Legislature and House Speaker Scott Bedke

The legislative session begins next week in Idaho, but already there is some drama unfolding among lawmakers.

Two Democratic lawmakers, Reps. Sue Chew of Boise and Muffy Davis of Ketchum, filed a lawsuit Thursday in federal court against the Legislature and the Republican speaker of the House.

The lawsuit says the Statehouse is unsafe for them as well as others who have issues with chronic health conditions due to the pandemic. The lawsuit is seeking to force House Speaker Scott Bedke to allow lawmakers to participate remotely.

Bedke released a statement which says, “Though it’s unfortunate that negotiations have taken this turn, I will continue to move forward in good faith toward a solution workable for all members.”

The Idaho Legislative session is set to begin Monday – which includes the Governor’s State of the State address.
