Yellowstone’s Ear Spring Erupts for First Time in Recent Memory

Yellowstone National Park (670 KBOI News) – If you’re headed to Yellowstone any time soon, you may notice some boardwalks are closed that weren’t the last time you were there.

That’s because of new activity in the Upper Geyser Basin.

The East Idaho News is reporting Ear Spring erupted last weekend for the first time in recent memory. The ear-shaped pool has been known to throw boiling water up to two feet in the air, but very rarely.

Also, new thermal activity has been detected at Geyser Hill, and the Steamboat Geyser which sat for years without erupting, woke up earlier this year, and has erupted 19 times in 2018.

This has been Steamboat’s most active year since 1982.

Park officials say there’s no indication of volcanic activity in the Park.
