Over 100 people gather to discuss voter initiative laws

Close to 100 people gathered in the cafeteria at West Junior High School in Boise on Tuesday evening to discuss whether Idaho should keep its current voter initiative laws, or whether, as lawmakers attempted unsuccessfully earlier this year, those laws should be substantially changed.

Luke Mayville, co-founder of Reclaim Idaho, the group that spearheaded the successful Medicaid expansion initiative, said a half-dozen similar town hall meetings are planned around the state, and local organizers will invite people on all sides of the issue to attend.

He told the Idaho Press, that the Idaho Farm Bureau already announced it will again advocate to restrict initiative rights in the upcoming legislative session, and lawmakers from around the state have told local constituent meetings that they expect the issue to be back.
