At least 12 people have died of flu-related causes throughout the state this season, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
Of the 12, three were children. Two lived in eastern Idaho and one in northern Idaho.
This season’s flu reports seem to be on par with past years so far. Last year, there were 58 flu-related deaths recorded, and 101 flu-related deaths were reported in 2018.
However, it is unusual to have so many children dying. Prior to this season, which started Oct. 1 and ends in late March, one flu-related death had occurred among Idaho children in the last five years.
The Idaho Press reports, most deaths involved adults over the age of 50.
