Boise city council hears public comment on zoning code rewrite

A major zoning code rewrite was at the heart of the Boise City Council meeting on Tuesday.

Tuesday was the first round of public testimony before the city council. Nearly 100 people signed up to testify.

The modern zoning code seeks to make sure new development is sustainable and protects open spaces while increasing access to different types of affordable housing in more walkable communities, and allowing people to decide how to get around – whether it’s on foot, cycling, taking the bus or driving.

Neighborhood associations biggest concerns and those testifying Tuesday include how complicated the proposed code is.

CBS 2 News reports, the next round of testimony starts tonight (Wed.) at 6 p.m.

A decision from the Boise city council could come as early as Thursday evening. If approved, it’s estimated the new code could be in effect by winter time.
